Member Development
The Member Development project has now been successfully completed. The project established joint working in Surrey on member training and developed a more integrated and aligned approach.
In Surrey, there are currently around 600 Councillors serving on the County Council and the 11 District and Borough Councils. The majority of councils provide their training for members individually, but this SIP project achieved savings and reduced duplication by providing a tailored programme tackling core skills, knowledge and understanding that all Councillors need.
The project was driven by a Critical Friends Group (a panel consisting of five member representatives of the whole County) and a network of officers across Surrey, led by project manager Clive Moore and project sponsor Stephen Weigel. A tailored two year programme was developed based on consultation with members.
The following workshops were delivered:
- Communication for Councillor Community Leaders
- Influencing Change
- Managing Stress
- Elected Members: Your Role in Emergency Management
- Ward Work, Case Work and Surgeries
- Introduction to Treasury Management
- Standards and the Ethical Framework
- Managing Large Organisations in Policitally and Economically Challenging Times (presentation one, two and three).
