Surrey Local Government Association
The Surrey Local Government Association (SLGA) oversees all of the current Surrey Improvement Partnership projects.
The SLGA is a partnership of all eleven Borough and District Councils in Surrey, together with Surrey County Council. It provides a forum where leaders and senior members can work together to provide better services for the people of Surrey. The Association comprises twenty-two members, eleven of whom are County Councillors and eleven of whom come from the Borough and District Councils. These twenty-two members are supported by the Chief Executives from the twelve Councils. The Association appoints a Chairman and Vice-Chairman at member level, and an Honorary Secretary at officer level. All of these positions are shared between the twelve principal councils and are rotated on a two-yearly basis.
20010/2011:
Chairman: Cllr. John Furey, Runnymede Borough Council
Vice-Chairman: Cllr. Ian Lake, Surrey County Council
Honorary Secretary: Rob Moran, Elmbridge Borough Council
As stated in the Constitution, the purpose of the SLGA is:
"To protect and promote the interests of the people of Surrey through cooperation between the elected principal councils on public services locally, and on representation on public issues at the regional, national and European levels."
The SLGA has a number of member led sub-groups, such as the Surrey Improvement Partnership. Other sub-groups include the Surrey Waste Partnership and the Concessionary Fares Group. It also coordinates District, Borough and County representations to a range of national organisations, such as the Government , House of Commons Select Committees and regional bodies.
